11th Weekend Of The Spring Gardening Season

Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do

An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.

  • Lunar Phase: 2nd Quarter Begins on Friday, May 29
  • Saturday-Sunday: Moon in the sign of Gemini - Plant melons and vines
    • You shouldn't overlook Star Jasmine as a mid-season blooming vine. Star Jasmine likes a sunny location, is evergreen and fragrant.

Later in the Week

  • Monday-Tuesday: Moon in the sign of Cancer - Plant Seasonal Color
    • Vinca Rosea is one of the best annuals to plant for summer color. They tolerate lots of heat and have a low water requirement.
Other Things To-do
  • It's not too late to plant chili peppers as they thrive with warm day and night.  For one of the world's hottest pepper, you need to plant a 'Ghost Pepper." They're often featured on the cooking channel and food network.
  • And finally, it is not too early to set out Yellow Jacket traps for the upcoming BBQ season. The traps from previous years should be wash out and new attractant inserted.
