1st Weekend Of The Summer Gardening Season

Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do

An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.

  • Lunar Phase: 4th Quarter begins on Wednesday, June 6
  •     Saturday-Sunday: Moon in the sign of  Aquarius - Plant onions, weed, and harvest
    • Onions can be successfully grown in rectangular containers when you are short on space.

Later in the Week

  • Tuesday/Wednesday: Moon in the sign of Pisces - Plant for root growth
    • Now is the time to sow another row of Beets, Radishes, and Turnips. A regular planting schedule gives you a continual source of these veggies all year round.
Other Things To-do
  • You can help with the pollination of tomato plants by flicking each bloom during the warmest part of the day or by shaking the tomato cages. The pollen is naturally sticky, and this helps it to spread.
  •   And finally, keep annuals like Petunias, Impatiens, Verbena, and others from getting leggy by pinching them back 30-50%.
