Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do
An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.
- Lunar Phase: New Moon, Thursday, January 11, Martin Luther King's Birthday
- Saturday-Sunday: Moon in the sign of Pisces -
- When composting any of your holiday decorations, be sure to cut them into small/tiny pieces. If you can put them through a shredder, this would be ideal, as the smaller the pieces, the faster the material will decompose.
Later in the Week
- Wednesday and Thursday: Moon in the sign of Capricorn - Prune and fertilize
- When pruning Apricot and Plum trees, use a ladder or telescoping pole pruner. It is recommended that you don not climb in the trees to avoid damaging the fruiting spurs.
Other Things To-do
- When freezing temperatures are expected, bring in your Hummingbird feeder and reset it in the morning. Hummingbirds are morning feeders.
- And finally, it's time to apply your second application of Bonide Wilt Stop as more cold weather is to come.
