1st Weekend Of The Winter Gardening Season

Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do

An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.

  • Lunar Phase: Full Moon, Monday, January 13
  • Saturday-Sunday: Moon in the sign of Gemini -
    • For overwintering insects, spray deciduous fruit trees with Bonide All Season Oil or similar products.

Later in the Week

  • If you plan to compost any of your holiday decorations, cut them into small/tiny pieces. If you can put them through a shredder, this would be ideal, as the smaller the pieces, the faster the material will decompose.
Other Things To-do
  • When pruning Apricot and Plum trees, use a ladder or telescoping pole pruner to avoid climbing into the trees. This avoids damaging the fruiting spurs.
  •  When freezing temperatures are expected, bring your Hummingbird feeder and reset it in the morning. Hummingbirds are morning feeders.
