Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do
An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.
- Lunar Phase: 2nd Quarter begins on Tuesday, November 30. (Thanksgiving Weekend)
- Saturday-Sunday: Moon in the sign of Libra - Prune and fertilize
Later in the Week
-
- Cyclamen, Violas, and Pansies or Primula make for a wonderful combination of color that lasts until Easter.
Other Things To-do
- This is a perfect time to trim junipers, pines, redwoods, and others conifers, but don’t throw away the trimmings. They can be used as part of your holiday decorations and to keep them fresh spray the greens with Bonide Wilt Stop.
- With the shorter and cooler days, Bluegrass, Ryegrass, and Fescues can be mowed shorter than what they where in the summer, so lower the height on your mower.
