Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do
An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.
- Lunar Phase: The 2nd Quarter begins on Wednesday, January 24
- Saturday-Sunday: Moon in the sign of Pisces - Plant seasonal color
- Primulas and the dwarf Primroses are available in 4” pots and packs. They are an excellent complement plant when combined with Cyclamen and other seasonal color.
Later in the Week
- Wednesday/Thursday: Moon in the sign of Taurus - Plant seasonal color and leafy vegetables.
- All types of lettuce along with Spinach and Swiss chard are available now for planting. If it’s too wet to plant in your vegetable garden, I would then use any type of container.
Other Things To-do
- When freezing temperatures are expected, bring your Hummingbird feeder inside and then reset it out in the morning. Hummingbirds are morning feeders.
- When pruning Apricot and Plum trees use a ladder or telescoping pole pruner, to avoid climbing in the trees. This avoids damaging the fruiting spurs.
