Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do
An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.
- Lunar Phase: Full Moon, Wednesday, April 1: Friday, April 3: Good Friday
- Saturday-Monday: Moon in the sign of Leo - Weed, cultivate, and control pests.
- Aphids are now attacking flowering and fruiting plums and cherries. They cause the leaves to curl. Insecticidal soap is recommended for control. Apply it twice, a week apart.

Later in the Week
- Monday-Tuesday; Moon in the sign of Virgo - Plant flowering vines and herbs
- Whenever possible, avoid planting vines on fences shared with neighbors. Your neighbor might not appreciate it when the vine encroaches into their yard. Vines don’t respect property lines.
Other Things To-do
- Shady areas come alive with color in June and July when Lily bulbs are planted. If you have no room in the ground, they are excellent in containers and are available now at your favorite garden center.
- Lawns are mowed weekly, March through October. It's also advisable to alternate the mowing pattern each time you cut the grass. This prevents the grass from lying down and growing in one direction.
