Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do
An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.
- Lunar Phaser: Wednesday. January 29, New Moon
- Saturday-Sunday: Moon in the sign of Virgo/Libra - Harvest, weed. fertilize and prune.
- Control the new crops of seasonal weeds by cultivating them or spraying them with RoundUp or similar products while they are still small. The plants can get quite large quickly, with the days getting warmer and longer.
Later in the Week
- When recycling clay and plastic containers, it's smart to sterilize them first to clean up any overwintering diseases. You need to wash the containers in warm water and bleach, one part bleach to nine parts water. Also, you can use a moistened rag, wipe the container thoroughly with the solution, rinse well, and let it air dry before replanting.
Other Things To-do
- Finally, Horseradish roots are available at your favorite garden center, but avoid planting them in the open ground. It spreads rapidly and is not easily contained. Instead, plant it in a pot or container.
