Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do
An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.
- Lunar Phase: Waxing Half begins on Monday, September 29,
- Saturday-Sunday: Moon in the sign of Pisces - Plant onions
- Pumpkins are ready to harvest when the foliage begins to turn yellow, so stop watering them and let the plants die back. Halloween is still weeks away, but you can leave the pumpkins in the patch or move them to a shady spot until you're ready to carve them.

Later in the Week
- Daffodils are graded based on the number of flowers they produce. All other bulbs are graded by size, usually in centimeters. A Jumbo Daffodil bulb will produce three to four flowers, while a #1 yields two to three flowers, and a #3 typically produces one. The larger the bulb, the more flowers it tends to produce.
Other Things To-do
- Now is the time to seal brick, cement, other masonry surfaces, and wood that develops moss during the rainy season. A sealer prevents moss roots from growing into the material, making the surface easy to clean with a rag. Several products are available at your local home improvement store.
- Fall is a critical time to feed turf. It is during fall, not spring, that grass grows new plants. Between now and Thanksgiving, apply one application of lawn food.
