Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do
An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.
- Lunar Phase: 4th Quarter begins on Friday, December 16
- Saturday-Sunday: Moon in the sign of CancerĀ
- Zygocactus, Christmas Cactus, can be used in protected areas as a substitute for Poinsettias. They're available with red or white flowers.
Later in the Week
- Wednesday -Thursday: Moon in the sign of Virgo - Harvest and prune
- This is a perfect time to trim junipers, pines, redwoods, and other conifers, but don't throw away the trimmings. They can be used as part of your holiday decorations, and to keep them fresh, spray the greens with Bonide Wilt Stop.
Other Things To-do
- Poinsettias should be placed in the room under seventy degrees to prevent the leaves from turning yellow, curling up, and dropping off. Also, avoid placing them in an area with a draft from an open and closing door.
