Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do
An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.
- Lunar Phase: Full Moon on Wednesday, June 27
- Saturday-Sunday: Moon in the sign of Scorpio - Plant Seasonal Color
- Vinca Rosea is one of the best summer annuals for a hot location. They are pest-free and require very little water once established.
Later in the Week
- Thursday: Moon in the sign of Capricorn - Harvest, weed, cultivate and plant onions
- The best time to harvest vegetables is in the morning hours when they are at their peak of favor.
Other Things To-do
- Tree Netting is used to protect the ripening fruit from birds. You should also wrap the netting under the canopy so the land-based critters do not enter the tree by climbing up the trunk.
- And finally, it's not too late to start string beans from seed. Late planted beans are not as susceptible to weather fluctuation as early season plantings.
