4th Weekend Of The Summer Gardening Season

Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do

An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.

  • Lunar Phase: 2nd Quarter begins on Sunday, June 25
  • Saturday-Sunday: Moon in the sign of Virgo - Plant herbs
    •  Herbs can be planted in various containers, but you need to group them according to their watering needs. Herbaceous herbs like parsley and basil like a lot of water, while woody varieties like rosemary and sage require less.

Later in the Week

  • Wednesday and Thursday: Moon in the sign of Scorpio - Plant Seasonal Color
    • The summer perennials are arriving at your favorite garden center.  I'd cut back and remove the spent flowers from the spring flowering plants, then add summer blooming perennials. Also, summer annuals like Verbenas, Salvia, Cosmos, Zinnias, and others can be added to perennial areas or additional color.
Other Things To-do
  • To extend the effectiveness of Sticky Traps, scrape the excess bugs off the cards and reapply the Tanglefoot gummy resin that traps the insects.
  • And finally, it is not too late to start String Beans from seed. Your late-season planting are not as susceptible to weather fluctuation as the early-season one
