Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do
An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.
- Lunar Phase: Full Moon, February 5
- Saturday-Wednesday: Moon in the sign of Leo - Weed, control pest
- With the moist conditions snails are going to be very active so it’s not too early to apply Snail Bait, especially to ground cover areas where they typically breed and newly planted herbaceous plants.
- You should use a pre-emergent crabgrass killer to kill the ungerminated seeds. Crabgrass is much harder to control once it starts growing. It’s best applied in February.
- Saturday-Wednesday: Moon in the sign of Leo - Weed, control pest
Later in the Week
- Wednesday-Thursday: Moon in the sign of Libra - Transplant for root growth.
- Plant Pansies, Violas, Iceland Poppies, and others for seasonal color.
- Now is the time to replant color bowls with Cinerarias, Iceland Poppies, Primulas, and Primroses for some very different color combinations.
Other Things To-do
- All the summer flowering bulbs are now available for planting. Gladiolus, Begonias, Cannas, and Caladiums are just a few of the many varieties available And many don’t have to be planted into open ground. Begonias, HybridLilies and Tuberoses are just a few of the many summer flowering bulbs that will thrive in containers.
