
Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do
An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.
HAPPY NEW YEAR- Lunar Phase: New Moon, Monday December 30
- Saturday-Sunday: Moon in the sign of Virgo - Harvest
- When picking Mandarin Oranges or Tangerines, be sure to leave a portion of the stem attached; otherwise, they'll prematurely decay.
Later in the Week
- For our feathered friends, it is slim pickings during the winter months. So, don't forget them by keeping your bird feeders full, placing Bird Bells around, and putting out treats like Suet Dough feeders.
Other Things To-do
- .You need to remove any of the fallen leaves and/or other debris in the landscape that has accumulated during the holiday period. If left, the matted organic matter becomes a good breeding place for problems later on.
- Finally, dormant spray is applied to fruit, shade, flowering trees, and roses after being pruned.
