5th Weekend Of The Summer Gardening Season

Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do

An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.

  • Lunar Phase: Full Moon, Saturday, July 4
  • Saturday-Monday: Moon in the sign of Capricorn/Aquarius - Plant for root growth, harvest, and weed
    • Blueberries are ripening. They have a progress ripening so the berry clusters don’t ripen at once.  You only pick the mature ones.

Later in the Week

  • For the holiday weekend, the Yellow Jacket Traps from previous years should be rinsed out with warm water and equipped with fresh attractant. They’re set out around the eating area(s), two to three hours before the food and beverages.
Other Things To-do
  • There is still time to plant another crop of lettuce. The variety of Red Sails is more heat resistant than others. Also, select an area that gets afternoon shade as this will help prolong the crop.
  • During warm weather, the water and sugar mixture in a Hummingbird Feeder(s) should be changed weekly. Every three days when it turns hot; otherwise, a harmful bacteria build-up. Before refilling, empty the feeder and rinse it out with hot water.
