Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do
An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.
- Lunar Phase: New Moon Thursday, February 11
- Saturday-Sunday: Moon in the sign of Sagittarius - Plant fruit trees, cultivate, weed, control pests.
- Your favorite garden center has received the 2021 shipment of Fruit Trees. Your selection of varieties could be better during January and February. Many of the trees are ready in a container, so you don't have to be in a hurry to plant them.
- Copper Spray is the primary dormant spray for deciduous roses and fruit trees.
Later in the Week
- Wednesday-Thursday: Moon in the sign of Aquarius - Harvest cultivate, weeds clone
- When harvesting Mandarin Oranges and Tangerines, you should take a small section of stem and leaves. This delays the fruit from deteriorating quickly.
- Unless the ground is super wet, you can cultivate and remove any of the emerging weeds. If you wait too long, it becomes a much bigger task.
Other Things To-do
- All the summer flowering bulbs are now available for planting. Gladiolus, Begonias, Cannas, and Caladiums are just a few of the many varieties available, And many don't have to be planted into the open ground. Begonias, Hybrid Lilies, and Tuberoses are just a few of the flowering bulbs that will thrive in containers.
- The flowering schedule for fruit trees for February and March is as follows: Almonds, Plums, Apricots, Peaches, Nectarines, and Cherries. Apples and pears will not bloom for another month or later depend on the temperatures.
