Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do
An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.
- Lunar Phase: Full Moon January 6
- Saturday-Sunday: Moon in the sign of Taurus - Plant seasonal color
- Cyclamen, Pansies, and Violas are available.
Later in the Week
- Tuesday- Wednesday: Moon in the sign of Gemini -
- All the holiday cedar, pine, and spruce trees in four and six-inch pots should be moved outdoors. Once outside, give them a good drink of water, hose off the foliage, and remove the holiday decorations and wrapping.
Other Things To-do
- The winter pruning season for roses and fruit trees has arrived. Call your favorite garden center if you would like hands-on pruning advice. They're conducting pruning demonstrations this month.
- And finally, Horseradish roots are available for planting but plant them in containers. When planted in the open ground, they become an invasive pest.
