7th Weekend Of The Spring Gardening Season

Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do

An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.

  • Lunar Phase: Full Moon Sunday, April 29
  • Saturday-Sunday: Moon in the sign of Libra/Scorpio - Prune, plant for root growth, transplant perennials, and tomatoes.
    • When planting tomatoes, it is recommended to bury the entire plant leaving just the last two sets of leaves above the ground. Roots will form on the underground herbaceous stem.

Later in the Week

  • Wednesday/Thursday: Moon in the sign of Sagittarius: Harvest cultivate, plant tubers and fruit trees,
    • Dahlias are a great addition to any perennial garden. They flower all summer long. The large flowers and vibrant color make them an outstanding addition.
    •  Apples, Pears and Asian Pears, are the varieties to plant where they’re going to get regular water from those plants planted under and surrounding their canopy.
Other Things To-do
  • Earwigs feed at night and hide in cool, damp, dark locations during the day. Around edibles apply the organic bait, Sluggo  Plus to keep them under control.
  • And finally, now is the time to switch from the 0-10-10 fertilizer to Azalea, Camellia, and Rhododendron Food on Azaleas, Camellias, and Rhododendrons even if they are not finished blooming.
