7th Weekend Of The Winter Gardening Season

Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do

An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.

  • Lunar Phase: The Waxing Half begins Tuesday, February 24
  • Saturday-Sunday: Moon in the sign of Taurus - Plant seasonal color
    • Saucer Magnolia, Magnolia x soulangeana, brightens a late winter garden. It’s deciduous, with flowers blooming before new leaves appear. It is a large shrub or tree that can reach up to twenty feet. It could replace traditional shade trees in small yards.

Later in the Week

  • Thursday - Friday; Moon in the sign of  Cancer - Best  planting days
  • Potatoes are one of the easiest crops to grow for making homemade potato salad or French fries. They can be cultivated in the ground, in raised beds, or containers. Certified Seed Potatoes are available online and at your favorite garden center.
Other Things To-do
  • Cabbage, Cauliflower, Spinach, and Chard are just a few of the transplants available at your favorite garden center for an early spring garden.
  •  Finally, to help preserve the Poinsettia's color, increase the light. At this time of year, they can tolerate midday sun.
