Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do
An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.
- Lunar Phase: Wednesday, February 14, Valentine’s Day and Ash Wednesday (Beginning Of Lent)
- Saturday-Sunday: Moon in the sign of Pisces -
- Here are a few tips on extending the life of Valentine's Day roses and other cut flowers. You should remove the foliage from the base of the stems when placing them in water. You reduce and/or eliminate the bacteria growth by changing the water frequently, removing an additional 1/4 inch of the flower’s stem. The stems are cut on an angle, usually underwater, to remove air bubbles. Add a copper penny to the water to prevent premature nodding of the flowers.
Later in the Week
- Monday and Tuesday: Moon in the sign of Aries - Harvest and cultivate
