Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do
An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.
- Lunar Phase: New Moon, Saturday, January 3
- Saturday-Sunday: Moon in the sign of Cancer/Leo - Weed and control pests
- Deciduous Fruit Trees are sprayed during the winter months with a Copper Fungicide. You need to space the application between rainy periods?
Later in the Week
- Tuesday - Thursday; Moon in the sign of Virgo - Harvest and cultivate.
- If you haven’t already, clear out and discard any summer vegetable plants. By now, they should look pretty ugly. Once the area is clear, spade it to prepare for adding a new layer of soil amendments. Hold off if the area is saturated from the rain.
Other Things To-do
- And finally, all the holiday cedar, pine, and spruce trees in four and six-inch pots should be moved outdoors. Once outside, give them a good drink of water, hose off the foliage, and remove the holiday decorations and wrapping.
