13th Weekend Of The Spring Gardening Season – June 11-12

Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do

An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.

Lunar Phase: 2nd Quarter begins on Sunday, June 12
  • Saturday-Sunday: Moon in the sign of Virgo - Plant flowering vines …Trumpet Vines  require a sunny location with six hours of direct sun, March through October; however, they prefer to be in the shade late in the afternoon of those very hot days.

Later in the Week

  • Monday-Thursday: Moon in the sign of Libra/Scorpio - Plant seasonal color, tomatoes and herbs along pruning for growth …When planting herbs, be sure to group them according to there water needs. Herbaceous herbs like Basil and Parsley require more frequent watering than Rosemary and Sage.
Other Things To-do
  • ...You need to loosen the metal name tag found on roses when removing the spent flowers. All to often the tag go untouched and eventually they griddle the stem, causing it to die.
  •   ...With our warm and windy days be sure that all container plants are being watered frequently. Water stress is now a major concern for all potted plants. The longer established plants stay in the same container, the less and less soil there is to hold moisture.
