Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do
An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.
- Lunar Phase: 2nd quarter begins on Friday, April 8
- Saturday-Sunday: Moon in the sign of Taurus - Seasonal color and leafy vegetables
- White, Pink, or Purple Alyssum is a versatile plant for color in the ground or container color. They mix well with all types of seasonal color, evergreen ornamentals, and edibles.
Later in the Week
- Tuesday-Thursday: Moon in the sign of Gemini - Weed, plant vines and melons
- Evergreen clematis is starting to bloom and has fragrant, pure white flowers. Clematis Armandi has been around for decades. The newer varieties, such as Avalanche, are desirable as they bloom on both the new and old wood.
Other Things To-do
- The white foam dripping off plants is from the Spittle Bug. It will be around for about a month but does no damage. I'd wash it off with a stream of water.
- And finally, continue raking up the spent Camellias flowers under the late-blooming varieties. Again, good sanitation is the best control we have for Camellias Petal Blight.
