3rd Weekend Of The Spring Gardening Season

Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do

An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.

  • Lunar Phase: Full Moon, Wednesday, April 5
    • Saturday-Wednesday: Moon in the sign of Leo/Virgo - Cultivate, weed, plant, and flowering vines
      • Avalanche Clematis is a white flowering, evergreen vine that blooms on the current and last year's growth.

Later in the Week

  • Tuesday-Wednesday: Moon in the sign of Libra - Plant seasonal color from seed
    • Petunias, Marigolds, Impatiens, and Zinnias can all be sown into the open ground. However, it's preferred that you start them in pots and then transplant the hardiest.
Other Things To-do
  • Finally, continue raking up the spent Camellia flowers under the late-blooming varieties. Again, good sanitation is our best control for Camellias Petal Blight.
  •  It is now okay to cut off the foliage of ferns damaged by the winter cold on the ground. The new growth will develop from the base of the clumps, and you encourage the new growth by feeding them an all-purpose fertilizer.
