Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do
An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.
Lunar Phase: 4th Quarter begins on Tuesday, December 20, Wednesday, December 21, Winter Solstice Saturday-Monday: Moon in the sign of Leo/Virgo-Harvest, weed, cultivate and control pests-- When picking Mandarin Oranges or Tangerines, be sure to leave a portion of the stem attached; otherwise, they’ll prematurely decay.
Later in the Week
- Wednesday/Thursday: Moon in the sign of Libra - Water, compost, and fertilize.
- Water container plants under the eves of the house or a patio cover every three weeks.
Other Things To-do
- During the winter months Mother Nature's bounty is not so bountiful, so don’t forget our feathered friends by keeping bird feeders full, placing Bird Bells around, and putting out treats like Suet Dough.
