Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do
An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.
- Lunar Phase: New Moon On Wednesday, April 19
- Saturday-Sunday: Moon in the sign of Pisces - Water and fertilize
- Blueberries are fertilized with the same type of fertilizer as azaleas, camellias, and rhododendrons. And they're also fed monthly until October.

Later in the Week
- The unwanted vegetation grows rapidly, so weed often is prudent to keep the growth under control.
- It's a good time to reseed bare spots and thicken up sparse lawns. For bare spots, reseed the blank areas; however, you must reseed the entire area for thickening.
Other Things To-do
- With warm weather approaching, it's time to reestablish the watering basins around trees and shrubs, especially those on a slope. With slopes, I build the basin higher on the downward side to prevent the water from draining away.
- And finally, it's not too late to prune spring flowering shrubs that have finished flowering. This is the ideal time to shape the plants and remove the dead wood.
