Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do
An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.
- Lunar Phase: 3rd Quarter begins on December 19: Thursday, December 21, Winter Solstice (the shortest day of the year)
- Saturday-Monday: Moon in the sign of Aquarius/Pisces: Plant seasonal color -
- Cyclamen is an excellent choice for open areas as it tolerates wind and rain.
Later in the Week
- During the winter months, Mother Nature's bounty is not so bountiful, so don't forget our feathered friends by keeping bird feeders full, placing Bird Bells around, and putting out treats like Suet Dough feeders.
Other Things To-do
- Water plants in containers under the eves and or a patio cover every three weeks or before a frost warning. Water stress and the cold will cause plant leaves to turn brown and maybe die.
