Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do
An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.
- Lunar Phase: 4th Quarter begins on Friday, May 12
- Saturday-Sunday: Moon in the sign of Sagittarius: Plant fruit trees and root crops: Plant fruit trees and root crops
- With a small backyard, you should plant Ultra Dwarf fruit trees. These trees will only grow to ten feet tall,
Later in the Week
- Tuesday and Wednesday: Moon in the sign of Capricorn: Plant root crops, prune and fertilize.
- Don't forget to trim spring flowering shrubs and hedges like lilacs, Viburnum, and Photinas. Also, the early flowering vines like Wisteria, Jasmine, and Banksia Rose have finished blooming. I would trim these plants for shape for the coming year.
Other Things To-do
- You prevent ants from climbing into plants by applying a two-inch Pest Barrier/Tanglefoot band to the trunk, two feet off the ground. If the ants return, they will be trapped in the sticky gum-like resin, preventing their forward movement.
