Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do

An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.

Saturday-Sunday: Moon in the sign of Virgo - Plant flowering vines:

• ...Climbing roses along with trumpet vines are now in bloom at your favorite garden center.  Blooming vines are an excellent back drop for any yard.

Later in the Week

• Monday/Tuesday: Moon in the sign of Libra - Plant seasonal color and herbs:    ... It's not too late to plant Sunflower Seeds. Besides the traditional ten-foot tall edible seed variety called 'Mammoth', there are ornamental varieties such as Crimson Thriller, Vanilla Ice, and the dwarf Teddy Bear.
• Thursday/Friday: Moon in the sign of Scorpio - Plant tomatoes:   ... If your tomato plants are struggling and showing little growth. they need to be replaced or lower your expectation for the season.   They’re not going to catch up anytime soon.

Other Things To-do

• … Now is the time to kill Bermuda grass in lawns with Turflon Ester or Bermuda Grass Killer. Both of these products can be used in Fescue, Ryegrass, and Bluegrass lawns without damaging the desirable grasses.
•   ...And finally, when planting corn be sure to plant it close together in rows or hills. Corn is pollinated by the wind. The lack of pollination is the primary reason why there are missing kernels in a corncob.
