Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do
An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.
- Lunar Phase: Full Moon, Friday, November 19
- Saturday-Sunday: Moon in the sign of Pisces - Plant Seasonal Color
- It's not too late to plant fall and winter colors, but don't expect much growth until next year. So, plant them close to one another to avoid them from looking sparse during the winter months.
Later in the Week
- It's not too early to prune Apricots, Cherries, Peaches, Nectarines, and Plum trees. However, it is now recommended to prune deciduous fruit trees in the late fall after 50% off the leaves have dropped.
Other Things To-do
- Now is the time to winterize cold-sensitive plants like Bougainvilleas, Citrus, Hibiscus, and others by spraying them with Bonide Wilt Stop. Bonide Wilt Stop puts a protective barrier between the foliage and the cold. A follow up application is made in January.
- Aluminum Sulfate, GreenAll PH Adjustor, and other acidifiers are now applied to shade-loving plants. Also, it's recommended Blueberries and turning Hydrangeas blue . An acidifier makes the soil more acid by lowering the soil pH. It is evenly spread and mixed into the soil. The winter rains does the rest.
