10th Weekend Of The Summer Gardening Season

Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do

An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.

  • Saturday-Sunday: Moon in the sign of Scorpio - Plant seasonal color
    • A good selection of summer flowering annuals is still available at your favorite garden center. When planted, these annuals bloom until early December or the first freezing night.

Later in the Week

  • Ornamental grasses can be used as fillers, borders, or background plantings, or they may be grown as container plants, but, looks aren't everything; the gentle waving motion of the grasses and the accompanying sounds create a very peaceful atmosphere within your garden
Other Things To-do
  • Once you harvest the crop of Raspberries and Blackberries, it is time to prune off the old fruiting canes or vines at the ground; you then select the replacement vines from vigorous canes at the base of the plants and tie them to the trellis. These canes will produce berries next season. All the rest of the basal shoots should be cut off.
  • Control grubs by applying any one of the many grub control products now. An early application discourages raccoons from tearing up your lawn this fall.
