Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do
An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.
- Lunar Phase: Full Moon, Monday, August
- Saturday-Sunday: Moon in the sign of Capricorn/Aquarius -
- Zinnias, Vinca Rosea, and Victorian Salvia are available for planting. These annuals bloom until early December or the first freezing night when planted.
Later in the Week
- Tuesday and Wednesday: Moon in the sign of Pisces - Plant for root growth
- Ornamental grasses have many purposes. They can be used as fillers, borders, background plantings, or grown as container plants. But looks aren't everything; the gentle waving of the grasses and the accompanying sounds create a peaceful atmosphere within your garden.
- Thursday: Moon in the sign of Aries - Harvest
- When harvesting Chile Peppers, wear gloves and cut the peppers from the plant with scissors.
Other Things To-do
- It's still okay to prune the late-season flowering shrubs. A good shaping will prevent them from growing out of control.
- It's not too early to prevent the annual fall visit from raccoons by apply.
- Beneficial Nematodes to turf and other areas that are perennial feeding grounds.
