Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do
An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.
- Lunar Phase: New Moon, Sunday, April 27
- Saturday-Sunday: Moon in the sign of Capricorn - Cultivate and weed
- Be gentle when cultivating around vegetables. Many edible plants, including peppers, eggplant, and squash, have shallow roots and can be easily damaged.
Later in the Week
- Thursday-Friday: Moon in the sign of Cancer - Best planting days of the month.
- It’s a great time to plant tomatoes since the rainy season is nearly finished and the nighttime temperature has warmed up. When planting tomatoes, it is advisable to bury the entire plant, leaving only the last two sets of leaves above the ground. Roots will develop on the underground herbaceous stem.
Other Things To-do
- Earwigs feed at night and hide in cool, damp, dark places during the day. They eat the flowers and foliage of the host plants. To keep them under control, apply the organic bait Sluggo Plus around edible plants.
- Finally, now is the time to switch from the 0-10-10 fertilizer to Azalea, Camellia, and Rhododendron Food on Azaleas, Camellias, and Rhododendrons, even if they are not finished blooming.
