Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do
An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.
- Lunar Phase: Friday, December 21 Winter Solstice (shortest day of the year)
- Saturday-Sunday: Moon in the sign of Pisces/Aries -
- Yuletide Camellia is an upright single red variety with yellow stamens and is quietly becoming a holiday favorite. They can be placed on balconies, patios, and decks. When you add a string of holiday lights, they twinkle all season long.
Later in the Week
- Tuesday/Wednesday: Moon in the sign of Taurus - Plant seasonal Color and leafy vegetables
- While it may be to wet to plant in your vegetable garden, containers are an excellent substitute. Lettuce, spinach, and chard are ideal for any shape or type of container.
Other Things To-do
- Poinsettias should be placed in the room under seventy degrees to prevent the leaves from turning yellow, curling up and dropping off. Also, avoid placing them in an area where there is a draft from an open and closing door.
