Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do

An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.

Lunar Phase: 2nd Quarter begins of Wednesday August 10

• Saturday-Sunday: Moon in the sign of Libra - Plant seasonal color …Zinnias are one of the best annuals to plant in a sunny location where deer are a problem. They bloom well into the fall and are a nice addition around out of bloom perennials.

Later in the Week

Tuesday/Wednesday: Moon in the sign of Scorpio - Plant seasonal  color and prune for growth

• … Privet, boxwood and photinia are due for another haircut to keep them compact and dense.  You can close the  major gaps between by adding additional plants.

It enhances the distribution of water into the soil profile by improving the ability of water to penetrate the soil and move into the root zone. •   …And finally, to prevent the annual fall visit from raccoons, apply Beneficial Nematodes to turf and other areas that are perennial feeding grounds now.
