8th Weekend Of The Fall Gardening Season

Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do

An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.

  • Lunar Phase: New Moon, Tuesday, October 25
  • Saturday-Sunday: Moon in the sign of Libra - Plant Sweet Peas and herb
    • Sweet Peas can be planted from seed or transplants. They are available at your favorite garden. center.Planted now, they should be in bloom in late February, early March.

Later in the Week

  • Tuesday -Thursday: Moon in the sign of Scorpio - Plant seasonal color
  • It’s not too late to plant spring flowering bulbs. When planting bulbs in containers, you can add Panies, Violas, Primlua, and others so the pot doesn’t look empty.
  • English Primrose, Iceland Poppy, Flowering Kale and Cabbage and others are available for planting now. They do well in any type of exposure during winter conditions.
Other Things To-do
  • Spraying the ground with Impede will get you a head start on all those unwanted weeds next spring. Impede is a pre-emergent herbicide that kills the weeds seeds before they germinate. It can be safely sprayed over and around any rooted trees, shrubs, or ground covers without damage. It is also, safe enough to use around bulbs.
  • And finally, with the leaves falling, it is time to clean out your gutters of all the debris that has gathered. You might look to install gutter screens as this will keep them clean and clear all year long.
