Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do
An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.
- Lunar Phase: 4th Quarter Begins on Tuesday, June 25
- Saturday-Sunday: Moon in the sign of Pisces: Plant for root growth.
- Don't overlook planting radishes, beets, and carrots in rectangular containers instead of in the open ground. They’ll grow on a decks, balcony or patio.
Later in the Week
- Tuesday/Thursday: Moon in the sign of Aries: Harvest, cultivate, water and control pests
- Established Cherries, Plums, Apricots, Peaches, and Nectarines do not require much water during the summer months. Every three to four weeks is all that's necessary June through August. There should be a six to eight-inch high watering basin around the tree extending from the trunk to the drip line. Besides, you should fill it to the brim twice when you water.
Other Things To-do
- Container plants should be watered frequently. In many, many cases, they should be watered often when the temperatures are over seventy-five degrees and every day with 90 plus.
- It's not too late to start string beans from seed. Late planted beans are not as susceptible to weather fluctuation as early season plantings.
