Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do
An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.
- Lunar Phase: Tuesday, February 12, 2nd Quarter begins; Thursday, February 14 Valentine Day

- It is getting close to the critical 'Popcorn or Pink Bud Stage' with Peach and Nectarine trees. It's just before this occurrence that the last application of Copper Spray for Peach Leaf Curl.

Later in the Week
- Monday/Thursday: Moon in the sign of Taurus/Gemini - Plant Seasonal color and vines
- All the summer flowering bulbs are now available for planting. Gladiolus, Begonias, Cannas, Caladiums are just a few of the many varieties available. And many do not have to be planted into the open ground. Begonias, Hybrid Lilies, double-check...Tuberoses are just a few of the many summer flowering bulbs that will thrive in containers.
Other Things To-do
- Grape vines are spur or cane pruned depending on the type while the plants are still dormant.
- Extend the life of cut roses and other cut flowers by first removing the foliage from the base of the stems as vegetation will foul the water in the vase. And second, recut the stem 1/4 inch daily. Finally change the water daily to eliminate the bacteria growth. Also with Carnations remove apples, bananas and other ripening fruit from the room as the ethylene gas given off causes the flowers to droop or flag.
