Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do
An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.
- Lunar Phase: St. Patrick's Day, Monday, March 17: Spring Equinox, Thursday, March 20
- Saturday-Sunday: Moon in the sign of Cancer - Plant and transplant for root growth
- Radish and Carrots can be sown directly into the open ground. Summer flowering bulbs, such as Gladiolas and Dahlias, are also available for planting.
Later in the Week
- Monday -Tuesday: Moon in the sign of Scorpio - Plant and transplant, prune fruit trees
- Wednesday-Friday: Moon in the sign of Sagittarius - Pune, plant trees and tubers
- It’s not too late to plant potatoes. Seed potatoes are available online or at your favorite garden center. Potato Bags allow you to plant and grow them on a deck, balcony, or patio.
Other Things To-do
- Liquidambars are leafing out, and it will not be long before the flower clusters emerge. These clusters produce the spiny seed pods that are such a mess. Once the blossom opens and the female part of the flower is exposed, spray the tree with Florel Fruit Eliminator. Florel aborts the blossom so none of the seed pods will form.
- Florel Fruit Eliminator controls Mistletoe in deciduous shade trees. Mistletoe is a parasitic plant that, if left uncontrolled, can damage and even kill the tree. Florel separates the Mistletoe plant(s) from its roots and is reapplied every second to third year.
