Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do
An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.
- Lunar Phase: Full Moon, Monday, March 25: Good Friday, March 29
- Saturday-Sunday: Moon in the sign of Virgo - Plant vines and flowering herbs
- Rosemary is a very versatile plant. It can be used as a Waterwise ground cover on slopes or a container plant mixed with sage, thyme, and other herbs.
Later in the Week
- Wednesday and Thursday: Moon in the sign of Scorpio - prune
- This is an excellent time to control Mistletoe in evergreen and deciduous shade trees with Florel Fruit Eliminator. Florel is sprayed on the clusters, causing them to separate from the tree and drop to the ground. Mistletoe is a parasitic plant. Florel should be reapplied every three to four years.
- Now is the time to prune back Pyracantha for the fall berry crop. When pruned before the new growth flushes, the berries will form on the main sections of the plant instead of on the long arching and sometimes leggy branches.
Other Things To-do
- It's not too late to plant the cool season vegetables such as Cabbage, Cauliflower, Broccoli, Swiss Chard, Spinach, and Lettuce.
- Daylily clumps can be divided at this time and should bloom later in the spring or early summer.
