5th Weekend Of The Summer Gardening Season

Gardening by the Moon Weekend To-Do

An idea as old as agriculture, based both folklore and superstition but there are scientific ideas to back it up.

  • Lunar Phase: Full Moon, Monday, June 29:
  • Saturday-Monday: Moon in the sign of Sagittarius - Plant seasonal color
    • This weekend is the perfect time to decorate your yard for the 4th of July. White and red are the traditional colors, but there are plenty of other options as well. Here are some blue annuals that would look great in your yard: Lobelia, Salvia, Ageratum, and Verbena.

Later in the Week

  • Monday -Wednesday; Moon in the sign of Capricorn - Plant and transplant
    • Mandevilleas are summer-blooming vines that thrive in containers on decks, patios, or balconies. Their large, vibrant flowers create a tropical ambiance in any space.
Other Things To-do
  • Premature fruit drop in mature container-grown citrus plants is primarily attributed to inconsistent watering practices. During this season, it is imperative to water the plants daily when the ambient temperature surpasses 85 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Coddling Moth Traps placed in apples and pears should be monitored throughout the summer, as multiple infestations are possible. Adult Coddling Moths lay eggs that hatch into worms found in the fruits during harvest.
  • Sticky Bars act as an organic control measure for Whiteflies and other insects. To ensure their effectiveness, it’s crucial to regularly remove the accumulated insects and reapply the adhesive resin coating, commonly known as Pest Barrier or Tanglefoot.
